Tube Intelligence — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 October 2026
Tube Intelligence is a Chrome extension that helps YouTube creators understand why a video works and what to make next. This policy explains, in plain language, what information the extension handles, why it is needed, and who processes it.
1. What Tube Intelligence does
When you open the extension on a YouTube video page, Tube Intelligence analyzes the video that is currently open and produces an AI-generated report covering:
- the opening (hook) of the video
- how well the title matches the content
- the structure of the video and possible retention risks
- the content itself
- the call to action / ending
- actionable recommendations for improvement
The analysis is transcript-based: it is generated from the video's title and publicly available caption/transcript information. It is not based on how viewers actually behaved.
2. Signing in with Google
Tube Intelligence requires a Google sign-in so that requests can be authenticated and the free daily usage limit can be applied fairly to each account.
- Sign-in uses Chrome's built-in Google sign-in (Chrome identity / OAuth) flow. You enter your Google credentials directly with Google — never inside the extension.
-
The extension requests only the
openidandemailscopes. It does not request access to Gmail, Drive, YouTube data or any other Google service. - The extension receives an OAuth access token from Chrome and uses it to authenticate its requests.
- The extension keeps the access token in memory only and never writes it to extension storage. Chrome's identity API manages the underlying sign-in and may cache it in your Chrome profile as part of that flow.
- The access token is sent over HTTPS to the Tube Intelligence backend, which verifies it with Google. It is not sent to the AI provider.
- The backend uses the Google account's stable account identifier to recognize you and to apply the daily usage limit.
- The backend reads only that account identifier from Google's verification. Your name and email address are not stored by the backend or used by the extension.
3. Information about the YouTube video
To analyze the video you selected, the extension reads information that is already available on the YouTube page you have open, such as:
- the video ID and video URL
- the video title
- channel information, where used
- the video's thumbnail URL, where used
- publicly available caption/transcript information for that video
Some of this information is transmitted to the Tube Intelligence backend as part of an analysis request:
- the video title
- the channel name
- the video URL
- the thumbnail URL (the link only — the thumbnail image itself is not downloaded or analysed)
- the transcript, as described in section 4
Tube Intelligence does not access YouTube Analytics, private creator analytics, audience retention analytics, private YouTube account data, or video frames / visual analysis.
4. Transcript (caption) processing
If captions are available for the video, the transcript is the input for the analysis.
- The extension reads the caption track that YouTube already serves for that video. It does not download the video or its audio.
- The transcript is not intentionally saved by the extension as long-term local history.
- The transcript is not stored by the backend as application data.
- The transcript is sent to the backend as part of the analysis request. A transcript that fits within a 10,000-character budget is sent as it is, with real timestamps; a longer one is sent in a reduced form (the opening, evenly spaced samples from the middle, and the ending) so that the request stays within that budget.
- The backend forwards the analysis input to the AI provider so the analysis can be generated.
- Only short quoted excerpts can appear in the generated report, which is what may be stored locally (section 7). The full transcript text is never stored by the extension.
If no transcript is available, the analysis is created without transcript-based findings.
5. AI analysis provider
The analysis is generated by an AI model. The provider used by the backend is
DeepSeek, and the model used is DeepSeek's deepseek-chat.
The backend sends the analysis request to DeepSeek and returns the generated analysis to the extension. The request contains the analysis input described in sections 3 and 4 — the video title, channel name, video URL, thumbnail URL and the transcript excerpt — plus the instructions needed to produce the report. The extension does not communicate with DeepSeek directly — all AI requests go through the Tube Intelligence backend, and the DeepSeek API key is held only by that backend.
6. Backend infrastructure and the daily usage counter
The Tube Intelligence backend is hosted on Cloudflare infrastructure.
The backend keeps a daily usage counter so the free daily analysis limit can be applied per user. During the free beta the limit is three analyses per Google account per UTC day, and it is applied by the backend rather than by the extension. This counter:
- is stored using Cloudflare KV storage
- is associated with your Google account identifier
- contains a simple counter value only — it does not contain your transcript, your analysis results, or your sign-in token
- expires automatically at the end of the UTC day
No other data processing is performed on Cloudflare beyond hosting the backend, verifying your sign-in, applying the daily limit, and forwarding the analysis request.
7. Local storage in your browser
The extension uses Chrome's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) for
product functionality only. Two things are stored:
- per-video score history — for a given video, the per-category and overall scores of up to your ten most recent analyses, the headline of the biggest opportunity shown in that report, and when each analysis ran. It is keyed by the video's ID, so one video's history is never shown for another video.
- analysis state — a small snapshot that lets an analysis that is already running survive the extension popup being closed, so it can display the same result when you reopen it.
The analysis state snapshot contains:
- the video information the report displays — title, channel name, video URL and thumbnail URL
- the generated report, which can include short quotes taken from the video's captions (the current hook and the evidence lines shown in the report)
- a summary of the transcript — whether captions were available, the word count and the language — but not the transcript text
- the status and timestamps of that run
Regarding this storage:
- these stored entries stay in your browser and are never uploaded to the backend or the AI provider
- quoted excerpts are capped at 400 characters each, so a stored report can never carry large portions of a transcript
- the analysis state is not kept indefinitely: a snapshot older than 24 hours is discarded the next time the extension reads it, and the stored entry is deleted at that point
- the score history has no automatic expiry; it stays until you clear it for that video, clear the extension's data, or uninstall the extension
- sign-in access tokens are not stored there
- the raw transcript text is never stored locally
8. Information we do not collect
Based on how Tube Intelligence is built, the extension does not intentionally collect or use:
- YouTube Analytics data
- audience retention analytics
- private YouTube account data
- passwords
- advertising data
- tracking or telemetry data
- your browsing history unrelated to the YouTube video you chose to analyze
9. Who processes information
The following third parties are involved, and only for the purposes described:
- Google — to sign you in and to verify your account when a request is made
- Cloudflare — to host the backend and to store the daily usage counter
- DeepSeek — to generate the AI analysis that is shown to you
No other processors are used.
10. Security
- All communication between the extension and the backend uses HTTPS.
- Your OAuth access token is kept in memory by the extension and is never written to extension storage.
- The extension contains no OAuth client secret.
- The AI provider's API key is kept server-side and is never sent to the extension.
No method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
11. How long information is kept
- The daily usage counter expires automatically at the end of the UTC day.
- The locally stored analysis state is discarded once it is more than 24 hours old, the next time the extension reads it.
- The locally stored score history has no automatic expiry; it stays until you clear it for that video, clear the extension's data, or uninstall the extension.
- Other retention periods — such as those applied by the AI provider during processing, by the hosting provider's infrastructure logs, or by Google during authentication — are set by those providers and are not controlled by Tube Intelligence.
We do not store your analysis results, your transcript, or your sign-in token on the backend as application data.
12. Your choices
- Sign out at any time from the extension.
- Clear the score history for a video using the clear-history control in the extension.
- Remove all locally stored extension data by uninstalling the extension or clearing the extension's data in Chrome.
13. Children
Tube Intelligence is not directed at children and is intended for YouTube creators and other general users.
